Hello and welcome to today's episode of The OBM Educator. Today's episode is going to be kind of just a conversation, granted one-sided, but just kind of me talking about I'm sure you've seen from the title remembering your why. So this is really going to be applicable to, I mean honestly, anything you do in life, but any type of business OBM, VA, coach any type of business that you start, because chances are there is going to be a time that it gets hard, that it feels challenging and you feel like you don't want to do it anymore. And I know personally in my five years as an OBM, I have felt that way many times and I always go back to my why of why I do what I do to help me just remember, like, what it is that I'm building. So that is what I'm going to be talking about today. Before I dive in, I do want to say that next week, on March 25th, I am going to be hosting a workshop. I have been doing these workshops this year, so this will be my third one where it's part of my Like an OBM series, which last year I did a challenge called Like an OBM, where we talked about like how you would approach different or topic that OBMs frequently encounter and breaking it down. So in January we talked about launching, in February we talked about data analytics and this month we are going to be talking about team hiring. As an OBM so hiring for your clients we're going to be talking about, like you know, the logistics around hiring, how to set up your systems, how to make it so that it's not overwhelming. It's a free workshop. The link to register is in the show notes or you can send me a DM on Instagram, which is @amandamcvicker_obm. You can just send me the word ‘hiring’ and I will send you the link to get registered.
Okay, let's get into today's topic. Welcome to The OBM Educator. I'm your host, Amanda McVicker, a veteran OBM who serves six and seven figure entrepreneurs as well as educates new OBMs with the skills and confidence they need to start and grow their own successful online business management business. Follow along as I share valuable insights behind the scenes, sneak peeks and proven strategies to help you build a better OBM business. So the idea for today's topic came from me looking through old notebooks. The other day, my kids were playing with all of my notebooks and kind of throwing them all around, but they had opened up to an old page from one of my notebooks, which in this case it was for when I decided to add mentoring to my services and helping VAs become OBMs. But I had written down this is back in like 2021. That's when I made that decision to add that in. I'm going to just read off what I said because it all still rings true.
But these were the reasons of why I want to help VAs become OBMs and it's to help them feel like the work they're doing really matters and to help them command the respect that they deserve being in that support position. To get them paid for their expertise at rates that are consistent with current market. To show them they can use previous experience they have to get ahead in the online space. To help train them on best practices in areas they don't know but likely wouldn't be able to get experience with as a VA. Specifically for the introverts, show them they don't have to be someone different to get high paying clients or be booked out. And I share those and not necessarily the ones that I, like came up with when I decided I wanted to become an OBM, mostly because I don't think I have those written down, but because the premise stays true. All of those things that I listed are still true today. You know, the idea of what it is that I'm doing, the different things that I offer are different. It does not look the way that I thought it would look four years ago, but the reason why I am doing it has stayed the same.
And so when you look at the reason why you want to start a business, the reason why you want to be a VA or be an OBM, those are going to be like your pillars right. Those are going to be the things that are constant, that are steadfast. Yes, some things may change, but I think that, at the core, the reasons that you start a business are going to carry you through to the end. They are going to carry you through to through the hard times, through the exciting times, but they're going to give you stability. And you'll notice like one of my reasons wasn't so that I could make $5,000 a month. Right, that could be a reason why you want to have a business so that you could bring in extra money for your family or for yourself. But there is deeper meaning behind that. That is going to be more of your pillar right, like the pillar of I want to make $5,000 a month is I want to support my family or myself through this business. That is going to carry you so much further than just I want to make $5,000. Going deeper in that is going to one, not limit yourself, right? What happens if you hit that $5,000? Are you just done? But it's also not. It's not going to be discouraging, because what if you don't hit that $5,000? You're still aiming towards supporting your family, as that is the desire that you are wanting to get out of this.
And like, for example of like mine, like I could have said, I want to help VAs become OBMs because I want to help them grow their business. Right, that's not true. That's not a pillar, right? That's not like this steady thing that I can grow a business on. But to say that I want to help them feel like the work they are doing really matters, like that's personal. That is, I want to help people take pride in their work and build a business. That means something, right, like that is so much more sustainable than I just want to help them grow a business. That means something right, like that is so much more sustainable than I just want to help them grow a business.
So, when you're thinking about your why and like what it is, I want you to go like deep into it, right, like don't think just surface level, really dig deep into the meaning of what it is that you are desiring. And then, when you are going through the tough times, going through the exciting times also, right, I want you to remember these things, remember your why and like this can come from like different, different ways, right, you can journal it, you can create affirmations around it, you can put it up on your wall so you're looking at it all of the time. You want those whys to be really ingrained in what you're doing and present in your everyday life, because that is what's going to help you with creating a sustainable business and that's what's going to help you keep your business going in the long run. So that's it.
This was a pretty quick episode, but that was really on my mind and my heart and I really wanted to share that. So I hope that you got something out of this. I hope you start thinking about your why, or refining your why, or remembering your why, because I think it is really going to help you in your business. I'll talk with you guys next week. Bye in your business. I'll talk with you guys next week. Bye.
